新人だった田中角栄の選挙第一声、「みなさん、あの山を削っちゃいましょう。余った土は海に入れて佐渡ヶ島とつなぎましょう。山がなくなれば雪は全部関東の方にいく。新潟の耕作可能免責は飛躍的にひろがる」というあれは、見事な概算だと思う。言っていることは無茶苦茶なのに、語られているのはたしかに「問題」そのものであって、その問題が解決されればどういう事態がおきるのか、不思議と風景がよく見える。
大きな問題を解決するためには概算の能力が大切で、「だいたいこうだ」とリーダーが概算を語ってみせれば、それを聞く側にある種の安心が生まれる。今の原発の問題にしても、災害対応の問題にしても、細かい話は無数に聞こえてくるわりに、政治の側から「だいたいこうだ」という話が聞こえない。個人的にはそれが恐ろしい。
